'Tis the Season to Start Planning for Vacation...and Winter+Spring 2025!
Important updates going into the holiday months + How our digital platforms are generally organized so you can stay in the know without getting spammed.
Dear families,
As we venture into the holiday season, I wanted to provide some noteworthy dates, offer some insight into how we operate digitally, and gather some feedback as we start planning for 2025.
Chinese Club has finally become a place where families learning Chinese have the opportunity to really hang out over karaoke and meals…beyond being a training ground for students who are not quite ready for formal classes or want the extra practice during the week. Our final “month’s” sessions for 2024 will be held on Nov. 7, 14, and Dec. 5, & 12…still at the 3:15-4:45pm time slot. Sign up via our upgraded Enrollment Portal! Family Karaoke Time + Friendsgiving on Nov. 14 (members only), and our end-of-term party on Dec. 15 (open to the public).
There are a few “no school” days and next term’s enrollment period coming up! So please mark your calendars:
November 9-11: Veteran’s Holiday Weekend
November 25 - December 1: Thanksgiving Holiday
December 17 - January 24: Winter Break + Enrollment Period for Winter-Spring Term!
Plans for 2025 Winter + Spring Term: As we look to our January - May 2025 term, we are thinking about moving our Saturday morning sessions to 12:30pm instead…to accommodate many of our families’ soccer/dance/baseball morning commitments. Also in January, Mandarin for Adults is scheduled for launch! Chinese Club may start earlier at 2:30pm due to early release days from GUSD elementary schools. Come March 24-28, we are also planning a week-long Spring Camp to pilot our plans for summer immersion camps. If you have strong feelings about those initiatives - or any others - we want to hear from you! Please complete our Planning Survey so we can better tailor our offerings to our Chinese-learning community.

Also, we wanted to give you an aerial view of our digital presence - a sort of roadmap - so you can be more productive and intentional with social feeds from us:
Our website is our comprehensive “Linktree.” You can reach us from it, figure out what Weekend, Weekday, or Online programs are offered, read our syllabi, donate/pay tuition, and tap into Chinese-speaking events around town via our Events page! Info on Chinese-speaking public events, like Dec. 15, are updated with details as we get closer to the date, so bookmark this page somewhere.
This newsletter is issued when there’s something to share with our community and avid followers. Usually monthly - though not guaranteed - and written when we have chunks of news or event invitations to share. No spam, no frills, just an email to stay in touch. Please subscribe if you haven’t already done so.
Our social media platforms are managed by humans, not robots, and still finding their pace:
Facebook Page: Basically our newsletter broken down and delivered in digestible bits…sprinkled in between by Chinese learning resource sharing and event announcements. Follow if you’re a Facebook user, or have a tendency to skip through your emails.
Instagram: Predominantly Chinese learning lessons & resource sharing with visual aids..probably also based upon vocabulary you’d come across in our newsletter. Follow if you prefer a more visual learning experience as you stay in touch.
LinkedIn: Newly created for our teachers, parents, and volunteers to have a space to share opportunities and work together. Connect with us if you’re a person who can help us on the backend of things.
Still not sure how to get in touch?
Parents & Community members: Unless you were added to a specific chat group by our teachers, email is still the best way to go. Respond to this newsletter or contact us anytime!
Prospective teachers, teaching assistants (TAs), and Remote personnel: Start with our Teachers or Contribute page.
Hope that helped enable a healthier downtime and screen time consumption!
Sincerely,
Principal Jenny & the SBCS Team
