Dear Chinese-learning Families,
Our 2026-2027 Academic calendar has been updated and Weekend sessions at UCSB are ready for enrollment! Newcomers should still register first, returnees can go straight to the enrollment portal for Fall and get Tuition paid…at a discounted Early Bird rate, including Adult Session students. What’s new aside from the discount to encourage early sign-ups?
Adult Session timing shall remain unchanged, but since we can only offer 11 sessions in the Fall and Spring, in order to wrap up before Winter Break & Mother’s Day, we’ve decided to extend class/elective time by 15 minutes. That puts class time at total of 1 hour and 45 minutes (105 minutes) per session.
The extra 15 minutes also allows us to offer a greater variety of electives, including dumpling-making, Calligraphy, Chinese Checkers, Dance, Karaoke, etc…in addition to the preexisting Bookworm and Performance prep options.
Since the prep work and materials will cost more, we have raised the post-Early Bird Tuition by an additional $6. But if you’re early, it’ll actually cost less than before. Essentially, we’d simply like to know our enrollment count before Teacher Prep session & TA Trainings.
We are also testing the possibility of extending to 2-hours in the future, to give our parents a longer date with each other while the kids are in class. ;)

Weekend Chinese Dance Class
We are waiting for confirmation on our specific studio space time slot, and aiming for Sunday mornings either before, or in-between language sessions. Start date will the be the SAME WEEKEND as our Weekend Sessions at UCSB, follow the same academic calendar, and location will continue to the in the building next to our classrooms. So if you know you will be able to keep Sunday mornings open for us, please go ahead and enroll! If not, definitely wait until we have a definitive time, and you’ll still make the early bird window if you follow our newsletters closely.
Weekday Chinese Clubs
We have updated what we could so far, so Wednesdays in Montecito sign ups are up and running, and Goleta (see Homework Help below) is the works. However, most elementary school sites don’t open up their after school registration until last August, and most of the after school sessions tend to start after Labor Day. Therefore, please check back between last August - Labor Day weekend for the most up-to-date schedule and availability for Weekday Chinese Clubs.
Don’t have Chinese Club at your school? Please rally at least 4 students/families to sign up and ask your after-school coordinator/PTA to email Principal Jenny and make it happen!
Homework Help!
We are working on offering hour-long homework help on Wednesdays in Goleta, starting in late September. This will be a part of our initiative to provide follow-up service to those who need the extra Chinese tutoring from our Weekend sessions. Cost will be minimal, and we will prioritize those who are enrolled in our Weekend Formal Sessions first, the ones who bring along homework from Chinese School.

With Mid-Autumn Festival coming up next month, I wanted to put this on your radar: We have a Mooncake-making & Q&A for those interested in learning more about Chinese School and all it has to offer. In the past, we’ve always held it the second Sunday after Weekend Sessions start, but this time, we will party to kick off Weekend Sessions, and our interested families can have all their questions answered same day.

我们的 2026-2027 学年日历 已经更新，UCSB 的周末课程也正式开放报名啦！
新家庭仍需要先完成注册；回归家庭则可以直接进入报名系统，选择秋季课程并完成缴费，还可以享受早鸟优惠。除了早鸟折扣之外，今年还有哪些新安排值得大家提早报名呢？
由于秋季在寒假前只能安排 11 次课程，而春季也需要在母亲节前完成整个学期，我们决定将每次课程和选修活动的时间延长 15 分钟。这样一来，每次课程总时长将达到 1 小时 45 分钟，也就是 105 分钟。成人班不变。
多出来的 15 分钟，也让我们提供更多样化的语言运用活动，包括包饺子、书法、中国跳棋、舞蹈、卡拉 OK 等。除了这些新选择之外，我们也会继续提供原有的“小书虫”故事时间和演出准备等活动。
由于课程准备和材料费用都会有所增加，早鸟优惠结束后的学费也会相应增加 6 美元。不过，如果您提早报名，实际支付的费用反而会比之前更低。简单来说，我们最希望提前确认秋季的报名人数，这样在进行教师备课和助教培训之前，就能更好地做好准备。
我们也正在考虑未来是否可以进一步将课程延长至 2 小时，让孩子们在课堂学习的同时，家长们也能多一点时间彼此交流、享受难得的“约会时间”呢。;)

周末中文舞蹈课程
我们目前正在等待确认具体的舞蹈教室和时间安排，计划将课程安排在周日早上，时间可能是在语言课程之前，或两节语言课程之间。课程将与 UCSB 周末中文课程在同一个周末开课，并采用相同的学期日历。上课地点也会继续安排在我们教室所在大楼旁的场地。
所以，如果您已经确定周日早上可以为我们预留时间，欢迎直接报名参加中文舞蹈课程！如果目前还无法确定，请先不要报名，只要及时阅读我们这个通讯录，等我们最终确认具体时间后再报名也可以赶上早鸟价。
平日中文俱乐部
目前我们已经更新了能够确认的课程信息。Montecito 周三中文俱乐部已经开放报名，Goleta 地区的课程也正在筹备中（请接着看作业辅导介绍）。不过，大多数小学通常要到八月下旬才会开放课后课程报名，而大部分课后课程也会在劳动节之后才正式开始。因此，建议大家在八月下旬至劳动节之前再次查看最新信息，以获取最准确的平日中文俱乐部课程时间和名额情况。
如果您的学校目前还没有中文俱乐部，只要能找到至少 4 个学生有兴趣在校开课，就可以一起向学校的课后项目负责人或PTA发出申请，并请他们联系我，说不定就能把中文俱乐部带到您的学校！
中文作业辅导
我们正在计划从 9 月下旬开始，在 Goleta 于每周三提供一小时的中文作业辅导。
这是我们持续完善课后服务的一部分，希望为周末课程中需要额外中文辅导的学生提供更多支持。费用会尽量保持在较低水平，并会优先提供给我们周末正式课程的学生，尤其是那些带着中文学校作业前来、希望获得额外帮助的同学。

下个月就是中秋节了，所以想提前和大家分享这个活动：我们将举办中秋做月饼暨问答活动，欢迎有兴趣进一步了解中文学校以及我们所提供课程的家庭参加。
过去，我们通常会在周末课程开课后的第二个周日举办类似活动。不过从今年开始，我们会试一下第一个周末用一场聚会来为新学年的周末课程揭开序幕！有兴趣加入 SBCS 的家庭也可以趁这个机会，现场提出任何问题，当天就能得到解答。
