As you light your lanterns and gather around sipping tea and tasting rice balls, SBCS is excitedly planning a 5-day immersive Chinese language and cultural learning experience at Ice in Paradise (with lunch breaks at Girsh Park)! Every site we partner with comes with its own set of learning themes that inspire very specific vocabulary.
At an ice skating rink, you can imagine we’d cover topics relating to winter/seasons, ice skating attire and safety, parts of the human body, properties of water, etc. These themes will then be broken down by language levels, taught via storytelling and lessons, then vocabulary reviewed daily.
Need more cultural enrichment? In between learning the language, we are also offering Chinese Checkers, Chinese Chess, and common crafting activities. The week will also include a fair amount of Chinese lyrics learning, through song and dance, so that we can prepare for a small performance at the end of the week!

8:30-9:00 Drop Off & Morning snacks
9:00-9:45 Storytime / Quiet reading time
9:45 - 10:45 Lesson of the day (by proficiency level/age)
10:45 - 11:30 Snack break & Karaoke time
11:30 - 12:30 Game time: Chinese Checkers / Chess / crafting
12:30 - 1:15 Vocabulary review (word bingo / word search / word chain game)
1:15 - 2:20 Catered Lunch followed by Outdoor time at Girsh
2:20 - 3:15 Performance Rehearsal Period
3:15-4:30 Calligraphy (M-F) /ice skating (M-Th) until pick-up
FULL 5-DAY TUITION is $420 for the 1st 10 sign-ups, then $450, yet still HALF THE PRICE YOU’D PAY FOR DAYCARE & INCLUDES:
✔ Small Class Sizes: 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio for focused learning.
✔ Specialized Curriculum: Site-specific Mandarin language learning material.
✔ Catered Lunch: provided by Su's Bowl/Kaiju/Uniboil
✔ Asian Snacks: Treats and snacks from around Asia are introduced daily. (parents should also prepare a snack bag if the student has dietary restrictions, or has a particular pallet)
✔ All Materials & Supplies: Books, board games, Calligraphy materials (Brush, ink, xuan paper, practice sheets), lesson plans, character writing sheets, everything your child needs for engaging activities.
✔ Ice Skating Fun: Ice skating rink admission & skate rental all week!
✔ Chinese School T-Shirt: A fun & educational keepsake to wear with pride.
✔ PE & Afternoon care: When most places charge extra for this period, our tuition is all-inclusive, and we use this time to offer Calligraphy, ice skating, and rehearse for a Friday performance!
Given the immersive nature of language learning, we are not offering a half-day option. Applicant's age range is from 4 to 12 years old. As always, we like to keep our student-teacher ratio low (no more than 8:1, average 5:1), so space is limited to the first 16 applicants!

在冰场，你可以想象，我们会学习哪些词汇呢？冬天/四季、溜冰装备与安全知识、人体部位、水的特性…… 这些主题都会根据孩子的语言水平拆分，通过故事讲解、互动课堂深入学习，并每天复习巩固！
想要更多文化体验？ 除了语言学习，我们还安排了中国跳棋、中国象棋等经典游戏，还有趣味手工制作！此外，我们每天都会学唱中文歌曲，用音乐和舞蹈感受语言的韵律，并在周五带来一场精彩的小表演！
